The innovative package of online apps and tools was unveiled last week at the Nonprofit Technology Conference in Washington, D.C. Google says its tools have helped nonprofits, such as the National Resources Defense Council and Direct Relief International, see an increase in support and funds. Recently, Samasource discussed how they were able to save money using Google for Nonprofits in this YouTube video.
The updated Google for Nonprofits website streamlines the nonprofit application process, which ultimately reduces the time a nonprofit has to wait to have access to the suite of apps. Furthermore, in addition to having access to previous tools such as AdWords and discounted Google Apps, nonprofits will also be able to utilize the following new features:
● YouTube for Nonprofits- Features extended uploads and an embedded Google Checkout “donate” button allowing viewers to not only watch your videos, but donate, as well as premium branding and an established nonprofit channel. Currently 10,000 nonprofits are using the program, according to YouTube.
● Google Earth Outreach- Free licensing for Google Earth Pro, which features movie-making, GIS Data Import, and high resolution printing (normally starts at $399 per user for business accounts), Google Sketchup Pro 3D modeling software (normally $495) and Maps API, offering easier embed features and more control of Google Maps for your site.
● Google Apps for Business (for Nonprofits) - Google Apps for Business, the one stop source for apps including Gmail, Google Docs, Calendar, Email migration and more at a 40 percent discount for nonprofit sites with more than 3,000 users.
● Google for Nonprofits Marketplace - Offers a forum for approved nonprofits to connect with global certified Google partners offering online services and products helpful for nonprofits.
● 24/7 Phone and email tech support
To access these tools and services, an organization must be a registered 501(c)(3) in the United States – however, there is currently a first edition version available in the UK which features Google Grants, Analytics and Earth Outreach.
In response to the reviews and buzz surrounding the new Google for Nonprofits, Google has created a forum for viewers to share their thoughts on the program and how they’ve used it to change the world. Users are applauding the program for helping plant 6,500 trees, treat cancer and destroy 1.3 million landmines.
